Learn more about our partnership with New Zealand Spinal Trust

NZ Spinal Trust has been supporting the Spinal Cord Impaired (SCI) community for over 30 years through:

  • Peer & Whānau Support (PWS) (both in-patient and in-community),

  • Return to Work Support

  • Information and training through the Resource Centre.

We support people who have sustained an SCI through injury or illness (ACC or TWO clients), as well as their whānau.

Over 230 new people go through the Spinal Units each year. Our support starts as they arrive at the Unit (in both Auckland and Christchurch), continuing throughout their stay and as they return to their home community. We keep contact with 'wheelies' and walkers for as long as they want – in person, through email, Facebook, Zoom - varying from years between contacts to a weekly catch-up.

Our front-of-house team have hands-on support from our Admin Team - all crucial to achieving the best possible outcomes for clients.

To wake up in a hospital bed, surrounded by medical staff, and be told you have broken your back or neck is a truly life changing moment. NZST’s role is to show that although your life has changed, it certainly isn’t over. Our team supports patients and whānau as they navigate their new pathway and learn to live a positive life.

And just as our clients find this journey easier with support, our team finds it easier with the support of our partners. Without the awesome, practical support of partners like Milner Mobility, we’d struggle to be there for our community. It takes a village …
